Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George. Julie of the Wolves
Winner of the Newbery Medal
Alone and lost--on the North Slope of Alaska Miyax rebels against a home situation she finds intolerable. She runs away toward San Francisco, toward her pen pal, who calls her Julie. But soon Miyax is lost in the Alaskan wilderness, without food, without even a compass. Slowly she is accepted by a pack of Arctic wolves, and she comes to love them as if they were her brothers. With their help, and drawing on her father's training, she struggles day by day to survive. In the process, she is forced to rethink her past, and to define for herself the traditional riches of Eskimo life: intelligence, fearlessness, and love. Here is the link: https://d3jc3ahdjad7x7.cloudfront.net/475nzdZ5sAkWUXzTxuhCr1Ry3woIeZKYQCjm5JuaxwuQytAW.pdf

Sample Title: Â A Whisper about Information Literacy
by Maryann DiEdwardo
The book titled Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George is the topic of this opinion piece. First, I shall tell my reader about my experience with discovering audio recordings by teachers! Youtube is a great source of information and I know that my reader will find data that offers resources on most popular books such as this one. Next, I will certainly share my experience. Essentially, using a free ebook and adding the audio has provided a key experience for me as well as for my students.Â
Initially, I was extremely excited to find the audio recordings. My reaction to the video is a relief and a joyous whisper of creativity. The reason that I am relieved is that my profession as a writer is honored when a teacher talks about a book in such manner as to enlighten the audience. Therefore, I am enlightened. Next, the whispering of relief and contentment in my heart was present upon finding this particular video about a book I wish to teach called --- Julie of the Wolves. My day was special after finding the video, because with the recent opportunity to teach online eight hours a day six days a week due to the coronavirus and school closings, I am always looking for inspiration to give to my students. The whisper that I felt in my mind was like a voice that told me to trust myself and to be grateful for my student who thought that youtube could be helpful in the case of learning about reading an entire novel. He was right! I am truly grateful to all my students.Â
Next, I spent several classes listening and analyzing the content of the videos. This was particularly extraordinary. Vocabulary words are plentiful. I share these with my student. Some of these new words are Burgeoning, seminal, eskimo, artic. I also noticed the writer, Jean Craighead George, uses interior monologue. The character is called Miyax. I particularly liked the use of wildlife to bring the story alive. We look at photos of the birds. For example we looked at a jaeger. The snow and the cold, which are created through language, are remarkably impressive. I also use maps to show the exact location of the story. Nomadic ways of wolves, observation of nature, and dealing with fear are also themes.Â
In conclusion, I love the book. I highly suggest that you read it! Plus, the content in the ebook is where you will also find answers to create opinion essays! You will learn about caribou, lemmings, wolves, and the rhythm of life in the Arctic.
